Choir at a Glance

Music is a fundamental piece of the student learning and growth experience at Rockford Lutheran School. The goals of the choral program is to teach young people to value and experience excellent singing through musical activities which develop skills, sharing, self-expression, and personal growth. This goal will result in a lifelong appreciation of music. Rockford Lutheran School is committed to introducing children to the western tradition of choral music along with a wide variety of musical cultures from around the world. Exposure to different styles and genres of music and learning about music contributes to boosting a child’s confidence, exercises the brain, improves memory and so much more.

Elementary Choir Program

Students in grades PK-5 get to experience the joy of vocal music through our Elementary Music program. Our robust Choir program lends itself to children developing a love for music at a young age and continuing to use those skills well into their high school years and beyond. Choir and drama skill development are integrated at the Elementary level with grade level productions each Spring and our Christmas programs. Each grade level explores smaller performances throughout the year.

Junior High Choir Program

Beginning in Junior HS, students can elect choir as a dedicated program in their weekly schedule. Our program explores choral music from a wide variety of cultures, genres and time periods. Students will understand the basics of vocal technique, sight-reading, music theory, and music history. Critical thinking skills will be developed through the analysis of musical elements.

High School Choir Program

In High School, opportunities exist beyond the core Choir program offered during the day to include opportunities for Worship/Praise Groups and Musical Theater, plus the select extracurricular Chamber Choir that practices in the evening and performs during the year at various off-campus venues.
