ABOUT ROCKFORD LUTHERAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Rockford Lutheran Elementary School, also known that “RLA” or the “Academy,” is a place where students of all faiths, ethnicity and national origins find academic challenge and the opportunity to grow to their potential. They explore their God given talents with a broad range of engaging curricula, hands-on activities, technology tools and extraordinary opportunities.

  • Students are grouped according to academic evaluation and their curriculum adjusted to allow for the highest level of individual success in reading, math and language arts.
  • An integrated hands-on science program, Launch from Project Lead the Way provides students with a unique experience in the engineering design process and the scientific method.
  • Methods of instruction strive to accommodate a variety of skills and learning methods to assist children with different learning styles.
  • Classroom and lab technology resources support 21st century learning methodologies.
  • Students begin learning Spanish in Pre-School and continue through fifth grade.
  • Music, Art and Drama are offered at all grade levels.
    • Band and Orchestra are offered in 3rd through 5th grade.

  • Athletic teams at RLA include volleyball, cheerleading, soccer, basketball and track & field.

The key to an accelerated and quality educational experience through high school is the foundation that is laid in the elementary years.  Students from RLA can enroll in high school level classes at Rockford Lutheran by 7th grade, and receive college credit through our Dual Credit program in 11th and 12th grades.  Those exciting opportunities are only available to those who begin with a strong accelerated program like that at RLA.

Academy students average two to three grade levels above national and state averages.  Small classes provide each Academy student with individualized attention from our faculty of gifted teachers.

ACADEMY ACADEMICS

Rockford Lutheran Academy is where all students can find academic challenge and perform to their potential. A rigorous but accessible academic program, coupled with additional support, mean that all students can advance beyond the growth that students would normally experience in an academic year.

  • Students are grouped according to academic evaluation and their curriculum adjusted to allow for individual success in reading, math and language arts.
  • Problem solving techniques are emphasized in all areas of learning.
  • Teachers provide personal learning experiences so that children with various learning styles and academic prowess are all challenged appropriately.
  • Implementation of “Hands On” science at every level with emphasis on experimentation and inquiry.
  • Computers in our computer lab and classrooms in addition to smart boards and document cameras allow for technology enhancement to our curriculum.  Chromebooks and iPads are available for student use. Technology is viewed as a tool that helps students achieve academic goals.
  • Students begin learning Spanish in Pre-School and continue through fifth grade.
  • A full library and librarian help students grow in reading skills and allows for instruction in proper research.
